MBA is Networking, Not a Degree

MBA is all about Networking

95% of students who enroll in the MBA course, when asked the reason for the MBA, say,

  1. For High Salary Placements
  2. Making a lot of Money and Wealth.

These are all very good reasons, but the most important benefit that an MBA from a good institution provides is the Network.

In research conducted with alumni from top MBA institutions and top CEOs, the network they built during their MBA is what they rate as the most important benefit for life.

The most important goal of an MBA should be to build lifelong relationships.

mba is all about networking

This network is what will help us as individuals for life:

  • When we want to make a change in our job and career, this Network will help us reach the right person and help us secure the job we want.
  • When we would require help in selling or securing finance or an order, the same network will get us entry into various corporates and enable us to have an advantage over competitors.
  • When we may require Medical or emergency assistance in different cities and countries, the same stronger network will help us.
  • These will be people whom you will be able to connect with for new ideas, share your best learnings, seek help when required, and offer the same.
  • For the entrepreneurs, this may be your first source of Funding.
  • Some may even find their life partners in this network of wonderful people.
  • And there can be 100+ other benefits that you can think about with this network.

This network of people associated with your institute will always be there for you, as no one can change the Name of the School, College, or Business School they have studied and spent their years of education at. So this lifelong association can be your strongest and best weapon for career success and business growth.

This network will be yours if you believe in giving back to the network and do not think of only taking from the network. The most successful people and those who get the highest benefit are those who contribute more than they take back from the network.

Business School network consists of:

  • First Level of Circle: Your Batch will be the most important Network and will have a closed association. Don’t worry about short-term thinking revolving around Marks and why someone has better grades than you, or less, but focus on building lifelong relationships with these batch people.
  • Second Level of Circle: Your seniors and juniors are an excellent second-level network. How you work with both of these in the year you spend will give you lifelong benefits of the network.
  • Higher Level of Circle: Professors and Mentors in the Business School are another group of people you should network with, as they are associated with all the alumni from across various years and industries. They can be your strongest advocates and help
  • Third Level of Circle: All the alumni from your Business Schools are your third level of the circle. Imagine if someone from your business school calls you, will you give them a better response on the call/ meeting than another stranger? So, find ways to build this network by participating in your institute’s alumni groups, LinkedIn, Alumni meets,
and other places you can connect with them.
  • Outside Corporate Circle: Companies where you have done your internships, Guest lectures that you attended on campus, Experts and CEO’s and Managers who visit for Campus Placements, Lectures, and the like can be an excellent Source of building a network.
  • Outside Student Circle: You can also build up your network with other Business School students with whom you can interact in business school competitions, Events, online and offline conferences, and like and stay connected.

All these Circles and associations can be your rich source of Network. Remember, Networking is like farming, and it will take years to build a strong lifelong network; it’s not hunting where you go kill and return in a few hours. Only people who spend time building it will achieve success in the network they build.
